A social media conversion rate is the conversions from social traffic divided by the visitors social sent, shown as a percentage. Type those visitors above, then the conversions they made, whether that means bought, signed up or called. The calculator shows the rate to two decimal places as you type. Add what one conversion is worth and it also shows the estimated revenue.
Where to find the numbers in Google Analytics
In Google Analytics, open the Traffic acquisition report. The table is grouped by channel, and social traffic sits in two rows. Organic Social is visits from ordinary links and posts. Paid Social is visits from ads.
Take Sessions from the row you want and type it as visitors. Then take the conversions for the same row and the same date range. If the two numbers come from different rows, the rate means nothing.
Metric names come from Google's Analytics Help, read in October 2026.
Why your rate may not match Google's
The Key events column counts every time someone triggered a key event. A visit with two sign-ups counts twice. Session key event rate counts only the sessions that had a key event, so dividing key events by sessions here can give a higher rate than Google Analytics shows.
If you want the number to line up with Google's, count converting sessions. If you care about total sign-ups or orders, count key events and expect the rate to come out higher.
What it leaves to you
- It doesn't connect to Google Analytics, Meta, TikTok or any other platform. You type both numbers yourself.
- It works out one rate at a time. To compare platforms, run it once for each and note each result.
- It doesn't tell you whether a rate is good. It shows your own number, and the useful comparison is with your other channels over the same dates.
