Our domain was registered in July 2026, so it is a few months old and renews once a year. The same check on example.com returned 31.1y, registered Aug 14, 1995. Neither number says how well a site ranks. It says how long the name has been held by its current registration.

What the age does and doesn't tell you

Age is counted from the current registration. If a domain lapsed and someone registered it again, the clock restarted on that day, and the tool shows the newer date.
It's not the age of the website. A domain can sit parked for years before anyone builds a site on it.
The expiry date moves each time the owner renews, so a date a few weeks away usually means a renewal is due, not that the domain is being let go.

How do I check the age of a domain?

Enter the domain above and press Check. The tool reads the registration date from the registry's RDAP record and works out the age in years from it.

Does domain age affect SEO?

Not on its own. Google's John Mueller wrote in 2019 that domain age helps nothing. An older domain has usually had more time to earn links and content, and those are what help.

Why is the age shorter than I expected?

The domain was probably dropped and registered again. The tool counts from the current registration date, not from the first time the name was ever used.

Is domain age the same as WHOIS age?

Yes. Both count from the registration date in the domain's public record. Our WHOIS lookup shows the same dates plus the registrar, nameservers and status codes.

Can I see when a domain expires?

Yes. Expires is the date the current registration runs out. Most registrars renew automatically, so on a domain someone still wants, the date moves forward a year or more each time it renews.

Why does a domain return no record?

Either nobody has registered it, or its registry doesn't publish RDAP data, which is true of some country-code domains. The tool says so rather than guessing an age.
