Shopify's conversion rate is the share of sessions that ended in a purchase: sessions that completed checkout divided by all sessions. Type those two numbers above and the calculator shows the rate as a percentage, to two decimal places. Add what one order is worth and it also shows the estimated revenue.
Where to find the numbers in Shopify
- 1Open the Reports list in your Shopify admin and click the Category filter.
- 2Click Behavior to show only the behavior reports, then open Conversion rate over time.
- 3Pick a date range. Type the Sessions figure into visitors and the Sessions that completed checkout figure into conversions.

Why orders divided by sessions can come out different
Shopify counts sessions that bought, not orders. One customer can place more than one order in a single session, and Shopify counts that session once. So if you type your order count instead, your rate can come out higher than the one in your admin.
Shopify's reports also show sessions that reached checkout. Type that number as conversions instead and you get the share of visits that reached checkout, which tells you how many visitors start buying and then drop off.
The calculator doesn't connect to your store or pull reports from it. It only works with the numbers you type, and it doesn't tell you whether your rate is good for your kind of store.
