You get 2,200 characters for a TikTok video caption. Hashtags and @mentions come out of that same 2,200, so every one you add leaves less room for words. Spaces count too.
Captions, photo titles and descriptions
A video gets one caption of up to 2,200 characters. A photo post gets a title of up to 90 characters and a description of up to 4,000.
From TikTok's Content Posting API documentation for developers, read in October 2026.
Scheduling tools post to TikTok through that API, so they hold you to these numbers. TikTok's help pages don't give a caption limit for posting in the app. If a scheduler posts your video, keep the caption under 2,200.
Emoji can use more room on TikTok
TikTok counts captions in UTF-16 runes, and some emoji take more than one. This counter counts each emoji as one character. If your caption has lots of emoji, leave a few characters spare.
There's no row for a bio, a username or video length. Skip the title tag, meta description and X post rows when you write for TikTok. Google and X use those.
This character counter is free with no signup. SearchBlueprint, who make it, sell SEO planning for websites: which searches each page should answer.
