YouTube's impressions CTR is how often people watched a video after seeing its thumbnail on YouTube: views from impressions divided by impressions. Enter impressions above, put the views from those impressions in the clicks box, and you get the rate. Add a target CTR to see how many views the same impressions would bring at that rate, and how many more than today.
Where to find the numbers in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- From the left menu, select Analytics.
- From the top menu, select Content. For a single video, open its Reach tab.
An impression only counts when the thumbnail is shown for more than 1 second with at least 50% of it on screen. Thumbnails in cards, end screens and on external websites and apps aren't counted.
Why your result may not match Studio
Studio's CTR only uses views that came from a registered thumbnail impression. Some views don't, such as plays from embeds and links outside YouTube. Divide total views by impressions and you'll get a different number from Studio. Use the views from impressions as your clicks.
The calculator doesn't connect to YouTube or read your channel. It works only with the two numbers you type, and nothing leaves your browser.
What a typical YouTube CTR looks like
Half of all channels and videos on YouTube have an impressions CTR between 2% and 10%. New videos and channels less than a week old, and videos with fewer than 100 views, can land further outside that range.
YouTube advises against checking CTR right after you upload, and says small swings are common and aren't a reason to act. Compare rates once a video has built up a real number of impressions.
