A TikTok UTM builder adds tracking tags to the link in your TikTok ad or post, so Google Analytics can tell which campaign sent each visit. The builder above starts with tiktok as the source and paid as the medium. Add your page address and campaign name, change the medium for unpaid posts, and copy the tagged link.
Using the tagged link in TikTok Ads Manager
- 1Build the link above with your page address, source, medium and campaign name.
- 2Copy the tagged link.
- 3Go to the Ad details section on your ad creation page and paste the tagged link in as the ad's website address.
TikTok can also tag the link for you while you create the ad. It fills in the source as TikTok, the medium as Paid, and the campaign ID and name. Build the link yourself when you want to pick the values, or when the link goes somewhere Ads Manager doesn't reach, like an organic post.
Mistakes TikTok warns about
- Swapping source and medium. The source is where the visit came from, tiktok. The medium is how it got there, such as paid.
- Mixing spellings. Tags are case sensitive, so TikTok and tiktok show up as two sources. TikTok's own tagging writes TikTok with a capital T, so if you use it alongside links you build here, choose one spelling and keep it.
- Tagging twice. If utm_source shows up twice in the link, Google Analytics may only keep the last one. Check the final link before you launch.
- Leaving a # in the address. TikTok drops everything after a # sign.
You paste the link into Ads Manager yourself. This builder isn't linked to your TikTok account. If you want TikTok's campaign ID in the link, let TikTok tag it for you instead.
