Describe your WordPress post or page above, add the keyword it should rank for, and you get three meta descriptions of up to 155 characters and five titles of up to 60. Each one shows its character count. Copy the one you like and paste it into the SEO Description field in the WordPress editor, or into your SEO plugin's description field.
Where to paste it on WordPress.com
- 1Open the post or page in the editor.
- 2Click the Jetpack icon in the top right corner. It looks like a lightning bolt on a green circle.
- 3Under the SEO section, paste a title into SEO Title and a description into SEO Description.
- 4Click Publish or Save.
The front page works differently. Go to Jetpack > Settings, click the Traffic tab and open the search engine optimization section. That field takes up to 160 characters, so every description from the generator fits.
The SEO fields only show on eligible WordPress.com plans. If you can't find them, your site may not be on one. From WordPress.com's SEO tools guide, read in October 2026.
If you use Yoast SEO or another plugin
Paste the description into the plugin's own description box in the post editor. The generator doesn't connect to WordPress or to any plugin, so you copy and paste it yourself.
After you publish
A new description on a post or page usually shows in search within a few hours. A new front page description can take two to four weeks while search engines re-index the site.
Google sets no length limit. It cuts the snippet short to fit the screen, which is why the generator keeps each description to 155 characters. Google may also show text from the page itself if it judges that a better match for the search, so a good description doesn't always appear.
This meta description generator is free with no signup. SearchBlueprint, who make it, sell SEO planning for websites: which searches each page should answer.
