To find who hosts a WordPress site, type its domain into the hosting checker and read the Hosted by line, which names the company that owns the site's IP address. You also get the network number (ASN), the reverse DNS name and the city and country the address is registered to. It works on any domain, so it doesn't check whether the site runs WordPress.
What the result means for a WordPress site
Hosted by names the company that runs the network the site answers from. That isn't always the brand the site owner pays. If a WordPress host rents its servers from a cloud provider, the result shows the cloud provider.
If the site sits behind a CDN or a firewall service, the IP belongs to that service. Hosted by then names the service and not the server behind it. The reverse DNS name sometimes includes the host's own name, so check that line too.
If it's your own WordPress site
- Your hosting bill or account email names the host you pay. Run the checker to see the network that company uses.
- Your domain's name servers tell you who runs its DNS, and that can be a different company from your web host. WordPress.com puts it this way: name servers determine where your domain's DNS is hosted and managed.
- WordPress.org recommends a host that supports PHP version 8.3 or greater, MariaDB version 10.11 or greater or MySQL version 8.0 or greater, and HTTPS.
The requirements come from WordPress.org's server requirements page, read in October 2026.
