An XML sitemap generator helps SEO by listing the pages you want in Google's results, so Google can crawl your site more efficiently. It won't lift rankings on its own, and Google doesn't promise to crawl or index every URL in it. Enter your homepage above. We crawl up to 100 pages and write a sitemap.xml of the ones Google can index, so redirects, errors and noindex pages stay out.
What a sitemap does for Google
Google reads a sitemap to crawl your site more efficiently. It's your list of the URLs you want in search results. Google generally shows canonical URLs in its results, and a sitemap is one way to tell it which version of a page you prefer.
There's no guarantee. Google says a URL it finds in a sitemap may never be crawled or indexed. If your pages link to each other well, Google can usually find most of the site without one. Google calls a site of about 500 pages or fewer small, and a small site with good internal links may gain little from a sitemap.
Google ignores the priority and changefreq values in a sitemap. Marking a page as high priority changes nothing.
How to build and submit the sitemap
- 1Enter your homepage and run the crawl.
- 2Read the pages left out. Each one shows the reason: it redirects elsewhere, answers an error, carries noindex, points its canonical at another URL or is blocked by robots.txt.
- 3Fix any page that was left out by mistake, then run the crawl again.
- 4Copy the XML or download the file, and post it on your site.
- 5In Search Console, open the Sitemaps report, paste the sitemap's URL into the Add a new sitemap box and click Submit. You need owner permissions on the property to do this.
The left-out list is where most of the SEO value is. Google's advice is to include the URLs you want to see in its results, and a page that redirects or carries noindex isn't one of them. If a page you care about lands on that list, the reason tells you what to fix.
Where the 100-page crawl stops
The crawl ends at 100 pages. A single sitemap can hold 50,000 URLs, so a bigger site needs a sitemap built some other way. The generator doesn't submit the sitemap to Google for you, and it doesn't add image, video or news entries.
Google's limits and advice come from Google Search Central's sitemap documentation and the Search Console Sitemaps report help, read in October 2026.
