Paste a page from your Squarespace site above to find its broken links. Each link is tested for 404s, dead domains and redirects, up to 100 per run. Broken links come first, each with its status code, its anchor text and whether it's internal or external. It checks one page per run and doesn't crawl the rest of the site, so run it on each page you want checked.
How to check a Squarespace site
- Open the live page in your browser and copy its address from the address bar.
- Paste it above and run the check. The page has to be published, because the checker reads what a visitor sees.
- Read the broken links first. Next are the links marked for a check by hand. Open each one in a browser and see what loads. Then redirects, then the links that work.
- Repeat for your other pages. A page with more than 100 links gets its first 100 checked.
Begin with the homepage. Your header and footer links show up on it, so one run checks the links most visitors click.
Fixing what it finds in Squarespace
A broken internal link usually points to a page you deleted or renamed. The cleanest fix is to edit the link so it points to the page's current address. If old links to that address are out there on other sites, add a redirect too.
In Squarespace, redirects go in the URL mappings panel. Open the Developer tools panel, click URL mappings, and add one line per redirect in this form: /old-url -> /new-url 301. Use 301 when a page has moved for good and 302 when the move is temporary. The field holds 400 KB, which is usually around 2500 redirect lines. Changing a page's URL slug changes the URL of every item on that page, so add mappings after you rename one.

A broken external link is a page on someone else's site that's gone. URL mappings only redirect addresses on your own site, so update the link to a working page or remove it. Redirected links still work, but pointing them straight at the final address saves a hop.
