Google Analytics HubSpot Integration: The Right Way to Connect

By Toy Wen Da, Co-Founder · Updated · 6 min read · scored 99/100

The Google Analytics HubSpot integration is simple at its core: you paste a GA4 Measurement ID into HubSpot's website settings, and HubSpot fires the Analytics tag on every page it hosts. Copy the ID that begins with G-, add it under HubSpot's domain settings, and data should start flowing within minutes.

How to set up the Google Analytics HubSpot integration

Get your GA4 Measurement ID

  1. Open Google Analytics. If this is your first property, choose to start measuring; otherwise go to Admin and create a new property.
  2. Name the property and set the correct reporting time zone. The time zone determines the day boundary for every report you pull later, so get it right before data starts collecting.
  3. Under data collection, add a data stream and choose Web. Enter your site's URL and give the stream a name.
  4. Open that web stream and copy the Measurement ID. It always starts with "G-".

Add it inside HubSpot

  1. Sign in to HubSpot and click the settings gear icon in the main toolbar.
  2. Find the Pages settings. Depending on your account this sits under Website or Content, but it's always labeled Pages.
  3. Use the domain dropdown to pick the site you're tracking, or choose the option that applies the code to every HubSpot-hosted domain at once.
  4. Open the Integrations tab.
  5. Check the box to integrate with Google Analytics 4.
  6. Paste in the Measurement ID you copied earlier.
  7. Save.

Give it up to 30 minutes before you worry. If data still hasn't appeared, check the Realtime report first, because it reacts faster than standard reports and tells you right away whether the tag is firing. If your HubSpot privacy settings or cookie banner require opt-in, the Analytics script only runs after a visitor consents, so GA traffic will read lower than your true visit count. To see what a full audit of this data looks like once it's running, this sample SEO report shows the kind of detail you'd get.

When Google Analytics and HubSpot reporting is enough, and when it isn't

For a single question about a single page, such as whether the redesigned pricing page's bounce rate changed or whether organic traffic to the blog is trending up, the standard GA4 reports after this integration are plenty. They also cover whole-site volume: total sessions, top channels and the landing pages that pull the most visits. If you're not sure what each number means, this breakdown of Google Analytics metrics explains sessions, engagement rate and the rest in plain terms.

Where the native connection falls short is revenue attribution. It shares pageview and session data, but it does not link a specific GA session to a specific contact record or a closed deal in HubSpot, so the checkbox integration can't answer "which keyword produced our last ten paying customers." That is a recurring, business-critical question, and it needs either HubSpot's own attribution reporting on Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise or a dedicated revenue connector such as GA Connector, which pulls closed-deal data from HubSpot back into GA-style reports.

Google's developer documentation treats Search Console and Analytics as separate products built for separate jobs (see Google Search Central). That matters because people sometimes expect this HubSpot connection to surface search rankings, and it won't.

Method Cost What You Get Best For Limitation
Native GA4 checkbox (Pages → Integrations) Free Pageviews, sessions, traffic sources in GA4 Teams that just want site-wide behavior data No deal or revenue data; one Measurement ID per domain
Header HTML install Free, needs an eligible subscription Same tracking data, more placement control Sites that need scripts the native method can't add Bypasses HubSpot's consent-banner controls unless configured separately
Third-party revenue connector (e.g. GA Connector) Paid subscription Closed-deal and revenue data inside GA-style reports Teams tying keywords and campaigns to actual sales Added cost and another tool to maintain

If HubSpot's own CRM reporting covers the sales side and you don't need GA at all, some teams drop Analytics and move to one of these Google Analytics alternative tools.

Common mistakes with this integration

  • Running two install methods at once. The native checkbox and a header HTML tag for the same property send duplicate hits, which inflates every number.
  • Assuming contacts link automatically. Out of the box, the connection does not tie a GA session to a named contact or deal; that is a separate CRM reporting feature.
  • Using an old Universal Analytics ID. Universal Analytics no longer processes data, so only a GA4 Measurement ID works with this setup.
  • Picking the wrong domain. If the Pages integration is scoped to one domain while visitors land on another, the tag never loads where it matters.
  • Giving up before the data window passes. Collection can take up to 30 minutes, so check Realtime before assuming the setup failed.

FAQs

Does HubSpot automatically send Google Analytics data back into the CRM?

No. The native integration only sends the GA4 tracking script to your HubSpot pages so Analytics can record sessions and sources. It doesn't push that data into HubSpot contact records; that needs HubSpot's own attribution tools or a separate revenue connector.

How long does it take for Google Analytics HubSpot data to show up?

Usually up to 30 minutes after you save the Measurement ID. Check the Realtime report in Google Analytics first. Once visits show there, the connection is working and standard reports populate shortly after.

Can I connect Google Analytics to HubSpot without Marketing Hub Professional?

Yes, for the basic tag. The free checkbox in Pages settings works on any HubSpot plan with page-hosting access, while Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise adds the header HTML option and more flexibility.

Why isn't my HubSpot traffic showing up in Google Analytics?

Check three things: the Measurement ID is correct and starts with G-, the right domain is selected in Pages settings, and your consent banner isn't blocking the script for visitors who haven't opted in.

Is Universal Analytics still usable for HubSpot sites?

No. Universal Analytics no longer processes new data, so only GA4 properties work going forward, and any guide referencing a UA tracking ID is outdated.

Check the numbers before you build on them

Once your Google Analytics HubSpot integration is live and the Realtime report shows visits, give it a day before trusting the full reports, because GA4 needs time to settle in data from every channel. SearchBlueprint's site traffic view is a quick way to spot-check that sessions are landing on the right pages once the tag is running.
