SEO for netball and sports academies

A netball academy ran through our August 2026 benchmark, and small-sport search turned out to have its own rules. This page states them.

Keyword research that respects a thin niche

Volume, difficulty and intent per keyword, from live search data for your market. In a small sport the honest list is short, and a short list of real searches beats a long list of invented ones, because every page you build answers something someone typed.

Help centre: Keyword research
  • A competitor list you can correct

Discovery returns who actually ranks for your terms, and the competitors tab lets you remove the governing body and add the academy across town. The tracking and comparisons then run against the list you approved, not the raw SERP.

  • A calendar sized to the niche

The content calendar schedules articles and programme pages against your approved keywords, on dates. For a small sport that is a modest, steady plan rather than a flood, and nothing generates before you confirm it.

  • Local visibility per training venue

Trials and classes are chosen by distance, like any local service. The local monitor measures your ranking from a grid of points around each venue, so the catchment you actually own is a map you can read.

Questions people in this niche ask

The ones that decide whether this fits, answered with the verdict first.

The keyword tools show almost no volume for our sport. Is SEO pointless for us?
No, but it is smaller. Low-volume searches from parents ready to book are worth more than the numbers suggest, and our August 2026 benchmark run found 14 real keywords in a niche whose first pass returned zero. The plan should match the niche's actual size.
The national association outranks us for everything. What do we do?
Stop measuring against it. Associations own the sport's head terms and always will. The winnable searches name a programme, an age group or a venue, and those are the pages the keyword map will point you at.
Do we need a page per age group and programme?
If people search for them separately, yes. The keyword map makes that call per keyword from live data rather than by template, so a niche with three real programme searches gets three pages, not thirty.
Can this handle a sport other than netball?
Yes. Nothing in the product is netball-specific; the benchmark client happened to be one. The same mechanics, thin-niche keyword work, a corrected competitor list, venue-level local tracking, apply to any small-sport academy.

What we will not do

We will not pad a thin keyword set with searches nobody makes so the plan looks fuller than the niche is.
