This slug generator turns a page title into the last part of a URL: short, lowercase, with hyphens between words. It changes & to and, drops apostrophes and punctuation, turns accented letters into plain ones, can strip small words like the, and, of, and cuts the slug at a whole word to fit the length you set. It runs in your browser as you type and needs no signup.
How to use the URL slug generator
- 1Type or paste your page title into the box.
- 2Tick Remove words like "the", "and", "of" for a shorter slug. It never removes every word.
- 3Set Max length. It starts at 60 characters; clear the box for no limit.
- 4Read Your slug and its character count. It updates on every keystroke.
- 5Press Copy and paste the slug into the URL field of your CMS.
When to use it
- You are publishing a blog post and your CMS made a slug out of the whole long title.
- Your title has an ampersand, an apostrophe or an accented name, and you want a URL that won't break.
- You are planning a batch of new pages and want consistent URLs before they go live.
- You want a short URL that still says what the page is about.
Worked examples
A long blog title, before and after stop words
We pasted a long how-to title with the default 60-character limit.
- Title or text to turn into a slug
- How to Choose the Best Running Shoes for Flat Feet: A Complete Guide for 2026
- Max length
- 60
- Your slug, 52 characters
- how-to-choose-the-best-running-shoes-for-flat-feet-a
The full slug would run past 60 characters, so the tool cut it at the last whole word that fits. That leaves a stray "a" at the end. Ticking the stop-word box fixes it, as the next example shows.
The same title with small words removed
Same title, with Remove words like "the", "and", "of" ticked.
- Title or text to turn into a slug
- How to Choose the Best Running Shoes for Flat Feet: A Complete Guide for 2026
- Remove words like "the", "and", "of"
- Ticked
- Max length
- 60
- Your slug, 55 characters

Now every meaningful word fits. If you plan to update the post each year, delete "2026" by hand so the URL doesn't date the page; a slug that changes means a redirect.
What the generator changes
| You type | The slug gets |
|---|---|
| Capital letters | Lower case |
| Spaces and punctuation | One hyphen between words |
| & | and |
| Apostrophes | Removed, so don't becomes dont |
| Accented letters | The plain letter, such as e for an e with an accent |
| Small words (when ticked) | Removed: the, and, of, a, to, for and 28 more |
Letters outside the Latin alphabet, such as Cyrillic or Chinese, are dropped rather than converted, so write those slugs by hand.
