This Open Graph checker shows what a link will look like when someone shares it in a chat, a social post or a Slack message. Enter a URL and it lists every Open Graph and Twitter card tag on the page, flags the required ones that are missing, checks that the share image actually loads, and draws a preview card from the tags it found. It is free and needs no signup.
How to use the open Graph checker
- 1Type the address of the page you plan to share, such as example.com/blog/my-post.
- 2Press Check, or hit Enter.
- 3Read the list at the top first. Each line is tagged OK, Check or Problem.
- 4Look at Share card preview to see the image, title and description a platform will most likely use.
- 5Read the og:image rows, then the full lists under Open Graph tags and Twitter card tags. Fix what is missing and check again.
When to use it
- You shared a link and it showed no image, the wrong image or your site name instead of the page title.
- You are about to post a launch or a blog post and want the preview right before anyone sees it.
- You changed your theme or your SEO plugin and want to be sure the sharing tags survived.
- A client asks why their links look plain on LinkedIn and you need to show them what is missing.
Worked example
A missing tag on our own page
We checked our free tools page.
- URL to check
- https://searchblueprint.io/free-tools
- Problem
- Missing required Open Graph tags: og:url.
- OK
- og:image loads.
- og:title
- SearchBlueprint
- Loads
- Loads
- Declared size
- 1200 x 630
- Content type
- image/png
- Open Graph tags (10)
- og:title, og:description, og:site_name, og:locale, og:image, og:image:type, og:image:width, og:image:height, og:image:alt, og:type
- Missing
- og:url
The image was fine: it loads, it is a PNG, and it declares 1200 by 630. Two things were not. og:url was missing, so the page did not state its own address for sharing; we added that tag the same day. And og:title said only SearchBlueprint, so a shared link to this page showed only our name and said nothing about the tools on it. A title that names the page gives people a reason to click.
