This keyword density checker counts how often each word and phrase appears on a page, as a share of its total words. Enter a URL or paste your text, add a target keyword if you have one, and you get the word count, the most used one-, two- and three-word phrases, your keyword's density, and whether it appears in the title, H1, meta description and first 100 words. It is free and needs no signup.
How to use the keyword density checker
- 1Pick Check a URL to read a live page, or Paste text to check a draft.
- 2Enter the page address in URL to check, or paste your draft into Content to analyze.
- 3Type your Target keyword (optional), such as seo audit. Leave it empty to see only the most used words and phrases.
- 4For a URL, press Check. Pasted text is counted as you type.
- 5Read Words and your keyword's density first, then Where your keyword appears, then Most used words and phrases.
When to use it
- You wrote a page around one keyword and want to know if you've used it too much or barely at all.
- You want to see which words a competitor's page leans on before you write your own.
- An editor asked you to cut repetition and you want to find the phrases you overuse.
- You want to confirm your keyword made it into the title and the opening paragraph.
Worked example
A homepage checked for its own keyword
We checked our homepage for the keyword seo.

- Words
- 4,631
- Unique words
- 1,280
- Title tag

- H1 heading
- Check
- Meta description
- Check
- First 100 words
- Pass
- One word
- see 34x, 0.7%; ai 29x, 0.6%; every 29x, 0.6%
- Three words
- google and ai 7x, 0.2%; see how customers 7x, 0.2%
The keyword seo appears 13 times, 0.3% of the page. It is in the title and the first 100 words, but not in the H1 or the meta description. The most used word is see, not seo, and the top phrases are about customers and AI search. If seo were the search this page had to win, the H1 would be the first place to add it.
How density is counted
Density is the number of times a word or phrase is used, divided by the total words, times 100, rounded to one decimal. A phrase counts once per match, so a two-word keyword used 10 times in 1,000 words shows 1.0%.
- Common words such as the, and and of are left out of the phrase tables.
- For a URL, menus, footers and other page furniture are left out, so only the main content is counted.
- Each table shows its top 10. Two- and three-word phrases appear only once they are used at least twice.
